Samsung is leading the mobile phones market globally and the company wants to continue with this momentum. After a great year 2013 (though Galaxy S4 sales were not as much as expected, and Galaxy Gear smartwatch was dud), the manufacturer is all set to start the next year with bang. All eyes are set on the next flagship Galaxy S5, which might be unveiled sooner than later. So, if you are eagerly waiting for the Galaxy S5 and want to know what all it might offer, then you have come to the right place. We will try to list all the specifications of the smartphone based on rumors all around the web.
According to various rumors and leaks, the Galaxy S5 will be having a metallic chassis, like HTC One. This is very important for Samsung as the consumers are bored seeing similar looking plastic design in its phones.
Since the first Galaxy S, the company is increasing the screen size of the smartphone incrementally. This means that the Galaxy S5 will be having a 5.2 inch display. However, it will have much better resolution at 2k (2560 x 1440 pixels) giving impressive pixel density of 564 ppi.
Similar to Galaxy S4, the S5 might be launched in two variants. The first variant will be sporting the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor with 2.5 GHz clock speed.
Another variant will be running on Exynos octa-core processor, which will have 64-bit architecture.
Since the Galaxy Note 3 had 3 GB RAM, the Galaxy S5 will have a 4 GB RAM to make use of processor’s 64-bit architecture.
Samsung will continue offering its devices with various memory options of 16/ 32/ 64 GB.
The internal memory can be increased by the use of a microSD card, since all Samsung smartphones have a slot.
Recently Samsung showcased its ISOCELL sensor of 16 MP, which suggests that the S5 will be having a 16 MP camera at the back along with LED flash. It will be able to capture videos at 4k resolution.
The front-facing camera will be of 3.2 MP to make the video calling experience better.
Galaxy S5 will support usual features such as 2G/ 3G/ 4G connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC and GPS.
Samsung will use the latest Android version 4.4 for the Galaxy S5 with customized TouchWiz interface. The TouchWiz will bring many interesting and useful capabilities to the smartphone.
Since the device will be so powerful, it has to be supported by good battery capacity to ensure long talk time. Rumors suggest that the Galaxy S5 will be having a 3200 mAh battery.
Though, Samsung always follow its rival Apple, which means that it will use a fingerprint sensor just like iPhone 5S. But rumors suggest otherwise, and Samsung will not be implementing fingerprint sensors for the S5.
That being said, according to patents filed by the company, it might be working on a retina eye scanner for unlocking and locking the smartphones. This can be a great addition to the device’s security.
Based on annual release cycle, the Galaxy S5 will be released in March. However, various rumors suggest that the company will unveil it in February 2014.
