The Biennial event, Indian Auto Expo 2014 is yet to start, but the companies have already started cashing in on the event’s popularity to showcase their vehicles. Leading Indian automobile manufacturer, Tata Motors have unveiled its new cars based on next-generation platform called as X1 developed by the company in-house. The cars have been launched at the time, when the popularity and sales of the products from Tata Motors continue on a decline. While earlier, the manufacturer was amongst the top three automobile manufacturers based on sales, it has now slipped to lower spot.
The cars launched by the company have been in development for more than a year and were codenamed as Falcon F4 and Falcon F5. While one of the cars is a sporty hatchback named Bolt, another is the classy sedan called Zest.
Their design was also based on new philosophy dubbed as DesignNext and was result of global effort with the collaboration of teams from India, UK and Italy. That was not only the core principles behind the cars, there were two more- DriveNext and ConnectNext.
The new design features include an all new grill with Humanity Line, placed in such a manner that it flows into the dynamic headlamps. In the Zest, the projector headlamps are accentuated by chrome accents, daytime running lights, the LED lamps, the 15” allow wheels in a shining Blue colour. While the Bolt gets a floating roof spoiler helping in aerodynamics along with adding to its look.
The interiors of the both cars also give them a bit of premiumness with dashboard carrying chrome embellishment. The instrument cluster and central AC vents are also connected.
DriveNext, as the name suggests is meant for improving driving capabilities of the vehicle. The Bolt and Zest cars are powered by a Turbocharged Intercooled Multi-point-Fuel-Injected (MPFi) Petrol Engine, REVOTRON with 1,200 cc engine.
The diesel variant of the Zest has an F-Tronic technology-enabled, 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) and is powered by 90PS engine.
Both also get an EPAS (Electronic Power Assisted System) with Active Return functionality allowing the steering to return to its original position. This was first seen on company’s Tata Nano Plus launched earlier this year. The ABS offers improved braking along with Cornering Stability feature adding stability to the cars. The cars also offer improved suspension resulting in wonderful handling and ride.
This concept brings smart technologies to the Bolt and Zest such as high-quality entertainment, climate controls, and more. Thanks to the Harmon Kardon infotainment system and Map My India navigation, the cars ensure that they provide complete entertainment and help in navigating any path. The media player has a 5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, voice recognition and social media integration along with ability to connect with smartphone.
