Sony has announced its next flagship Xperia Z3 and its smaller sibling Z3 compact in India. The devices were showcased at IFA, Berlin earlier this month and have made it to our shores well in time with other European countries. Priced at Rs. 51,990 and Rs. 44,990 respectively, these devices fall in Sony’s 6 months refresh cycle. Both the devices are IP65/68 certified making them water-resistant and dust-proof. Sony provides the best water proofing solution for smart devices now.
Sony’s Xperia Z3 is a step up from the outgoing flagship in every aspect. From design to hardware, Xperia Z3 oozes excellence. Available in Black, White and Copper (no purple this time), Xperia Z3 is beautiful. Xperia Z3 stands tall at 5.2” and has a brighter 600 candela display which stays 1920 pixels in width and 1080 pixels in height, aka Full HD. The display is indeed better than Z2, with better contrast and richer blacks. The Smartphone is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5 GHz and has 3GB RAM and 16GB internal memory.
With Smartphone sales declining across the board, Sony India Managing Director, Mr. Kenichiro Hibi, said “The launch of the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact reinforces Sony’s commitment to offer the latest cutting-edge technology to our customers. With the two size options, customers now have the option of choosing the form factor that fits their individual requirement, without compromising on either technology or design. We are very encouraged with the response to Sony Xperia smartphones in India, and are targeting 40% contribution from Xperia sales to our sales turnover of FY14. We are expanding our distribution to 10,000 retail touch-points including 250 exclusive Xperia Stores in FY14.”
Sony is highly talking about the footprint of the device. It still looks like a slab but slimmer than ever before, coming in at 7.3mm and weighs just 152 grams. The sensor on the back is the same 20.7MP from its predecessor but has 25mm lens unlike 30mm seen on the Xperia Z2. This sensor can click better wide angle shots and also the ISO is bumped to 12800, which is similar to most point and shoots. Unfortunately, the camera offers limited manual controls and that ISO works only in Superior iAuto Mode. Sony has also added several camera apps (six for all you number caring people) to make your camera experience overwhelming.
Sony has also brought Z3 compact to party which is a miniature version of Xperia Z3. It borrows the specs from Xperia Z3 but packs it in a smaller framework. With Xperia Z3 compact, Sony has completed what was left incomplete with Xperia Z1 Compact. Z1 Compact was a remarkable phone and many dubbed it as iPhone with Android skin. With iPhone getting bigger screens, Xperia Z3 compact would still be called that way. It’s an iPhone 6(if you care) with Android DNA. Sony Xperia Z2 compact is still under TBD.
Sony has carried its good work from Xperia Z1 compact to this beauty. Z3 Compact is slightly bigger at 4.6” and has a 1280 x 720 pixels display which offers wide viewing angles and produced natural colors even in that brightly lit launch event. For those who care, its again 600 candela display. It runs Android 4.4.4 with Sony’s UI like Xperia Z3 and is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB Internal memory with microSD expandable upto 128GB. It has same camera module as the Xperia Z3 making it one of the best compact Smartphone available in the market now. Good things never come cheap, Z3 compact justifies.
