Exploring JotForm’s New Form Designer

Good ol’ online forms; we’ve seen them a million times. From the uninspiring to the downright ugly. They’re the often-forgotten space on a website where attractive web design loses a wrestling match to practicality.

But what if you could have both? A fully functional form that happens to be easy on the eyes?

JotForm has been around a while, providing users with one of the easiest form builders you’re likely to find anywhere. But for the longest time there wasn’t an option for regular users who wanted a more customized, intricate, and beautiful form design. That is, until now.

The new Form Designer from JotForm is nothing short of a game changer. If you have serious CSS chops, you’ve always had the ability to create customized design forms on JotForm; it just took a while. Now? Anyone can hop on and produce beautifully designed forms in a fraction of the time it used to take.

Here’s a quick guide showing just how easy it is using the Form Designer:

1) Start by using the tried-and-true JotForm drag-and-drop Form Builder to get started with the basics and entry fields.

2) Select the Form Designer icon in the toolbar to set up the design feature. This will migrate your form to a completely new page.

Think you can create an awesome form?

There’s a contest for that sort of thing. The JotForm Web Form Design Awards launched this week, and the buzz has been palpable. 1,500 contestants have already registered, and the company is expecting many more. The $7,500 grand prize might have something to do with that.

The contest also gives designers a chance to put their work in front of a prestigious panel of judges, who include Entrepreneur Magazine Editor, Carolyn Horwitz, and Noupe Magazine Editor, Dieter Petereit.

The only rules for the contest are that you need to build your form using JotForm’s Form Designer, and the form must be fully functional. Other than that, the sky’s the limit.

Additional prizes include $500 for each of the following categories: Best ECommerce, Mobile, Survey, and Contact forms, as well as the Worst Form (don’t worry, it’s all in good fun). There’s also free t-shirts, lifetime premium JotForm memberships, and a handful of free memberships from JotForm partners.

JotForm is accepting entries until December 4. For more information, visit www.jotform.com/awards.
